HOW TO GET HERE

The only decent way of getting to Casa Salix is by car. Normally most of the guests arrives at Málaga airport, from there they take a rental car and drive in direction Nerja. Are you coming from Granada the direction is Motril.

La Herradura is located between Nerja and Almuñécar, and Casa Salix is in the west side of the La Herradura bay in the urbanisation Los Altos.

Almuñécar

The nearest town from La Herradura are Almuñécar, cosy little town with all the facilities you need, grocery shops, banks, public notarius, hospital and much more.

The town sits upon a hill at the mouth of two rivers, meandering down to the coast, in the province of Granada in Andalusia.

From here you can almost reach out and touch Africa and its special climate. The town is backed by rugged hills, valleys and agricultural land of olive groves, almond and carob trees.

The town has medieval steep winding streets that lead to the Plaza de Constitución, where the Town Hall stands, and onto the highest old quarter called Barrio San Miguel and onto the Moorish castle. Most of this area is pedestrianised and residential. Geranium-filled balconies and small sunny plazas line the labryinth of narrow passageways, the town’s archaeological museum is located here.

The Playa Puerta del Mar is Almunecar’s principal beach backed by the palm-lined Paseo del Altillo, there are many banks located along the road. During the summer months parking can be
difficult in the town.

Nerja

Nerja is situated at the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol, in the province of Malaga, 50 kilometres from the city of Malaga and within an hour and a half’s drive from Granada and the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada.

Sheltered by the impressive Sierra Almijara mountain range, Sierra Almijara, this once sleepy fishing village is now one of the most popular tourist resorts along the coast, with a population of over 12,000. The town has resisted too much re-development and high rise apartment blocks, preferring to stay a charming seaside town, attracting the more discerning holidaymaker; the town is often referred to as the ‘’Jewel of the Costa del Sol’.

One of the town’s most impressive attractions is the Balcón de Europa (the Balcony of Europe), a wonderful promenade, stretching along the edge of a soaring cliff top, which was once the location of a Moorish castle. The platform has spectacular panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline, with its backdrop of mountains.

The deep Andalusian culture that the town exudes, perfect climate and cosmopolitan atmosphere, has made Nerja one of the most attractive holiday hotspots on the Costa del Sol.

Granada

The city of Granada is characterised by architectural splendour, a rich cultural heritage and its stunning backdrop of the Sierra Nevada. The most famous landmark in Granada is the 14th century Alhambra Palace, one of the most revered examples of Islamic architecture in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Yet Granada has heaps more to offer visitors; the whole city has a unique feel, with its wealth of ancient buildings and neighbourhoods, combined with a wonderful, bohemian and upbeat atmosphere, Granada enchants all who come to visit.

Málaga

The province of Malaga is located in southern Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalucia, on the shores of the Mediterranean sea. Its coastline is commonly referred to as the Costa del Sol, and also the Costa del Golf.

Extending along 161 kilometres of coastline, the environment encompasses mountainous regions, coastline and farmland. The backdrop of most of the coastline has majestic mountains, which pin the towns and cities to the waters edge. Inland there are numerous traditional white washed villages. The city of Malaga splits the east and west coastline of the province.

There is an abundance of things to do in the province of Málaga from historical sightseeing to playing golf on the provinces many, and often world-class golf courses.
